While the evenings may be getting brighter, the same can not be said for the property market. Figures released from the Department of the Environment confirm that the housing sector continues to decline, as new house builds plummet. These figures are based on New House Guarantees registered by Homebond and Premier, and are used as a good indicator of activity in the New Housing market.
The figures show that in the first two months of this year, overall house registrations fell by 65% compared to this period last year. The decline was the highest in Longford (99%), Monaghan (94%) and Westmeath (92%).
The best performing area is Sligo - which is the only county to show an increase in registrations (+26%). The decline was slowest in Meath (14%), while Dublin showed an overall decline of 42%.
