Ten ways to Green your home - and Save Money
...

We have listed ten ways to help you Green your home and Save Money!

  1. Turning your heating down by 1 celsius - By turning your thermostat down by 1 degree will help you save up to 10% on your heating bill.

  2. When buying kitchen appliances buy A rated appliances - Appliances are graded from A - G on how energy efficient they are. A appliances use considerably less electricity.

  3. Use energy efficient light bulbs (CFL's) instead of traditional bulbs in your home - they may be more costly initially but the cost savings will save money in the long term, as well as less energy being used..

  4. Insulate your attic - Attic insulation keeps the heat in your home for longer and the saving you make annually pays for itself in less then 2 years.

  5. Fit a lagging jacket - Putting an insulating jacket around your hot water tank will keep the water warmer for longer and save you money.

  6. Don't overfill your kettle - By boiling only as much water as you need you are saving energy and water.

  7. Turn off your TV and other appliances rather then leave it on stand by - equipment on stand by uses 20% of the energy it would use when fully on.

  8. Check your radiators for thermostatic radiator valves (TRV's) - This allows you to control the heat of the radiator in each room and regulate the heating of your home more efficiently. It is estimate that TRV's can save you up to €77 annually.

  9. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging (including the economy size when that makes sense for you) will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

  10. Plant a Tree: During photosynthesis, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime - start planting!
